Underground Field Engineering
AiNET performs manual and mechanized measurements to document the placement of below-grade utilities and structures. A focus is placed upon objects within the public right-of-way to include, but not limited to: underground utilities, surface mounted pedestals, poles, and pull box covers.
Underground field engineering requires determining grade elevations in relation to below-surface obstructions. Upon complete documentation of existing field conditions, locations are selected to place new manholes, handholes, pedestals, conduits, and cables. The effort includes incorporating parameters provided by local permitting agencies and clients’ needs.
All field documentations and proposed additions will comply with National Electric Codes and appropriate local jurisdictions.
Outside Plant Security Engineering

Ground Penetrating Radar Survey
Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a geophysical method that uses radar pulses to image the subsurface. This nondestructive method uses electromagnetic radiation in the microwave band (UHF/VHF frequencies) of the radio spectrum, and detects the reflected signals from subsurface structures. GPR can be used in a variety of media, including rock, soil, ice, fresh water, pavements and structures. It can detect objects, changes in material, and voids and cracks.
This method of survey allows the development of underground “as-builts” to avoid duplication and risk to the existing cable plant.
Pole Line Field Engineering
AiNET performs manual and mechanized measurements to document the placement of above-grade utilities and structures. Aerial field engineering requires documenting the owner(s) of utility poles and applying the parameters for attachment proposals. The placement of the pole within the public right of way also is recorded. The task continues with measuring the attachment height of each cable and other hardware. Additionally, it is necessary to record linear distances between poles and mid-span clearances of the existing utilities. All field documentations and proposed additions must also comply with National Electric Codes.
Among other site engineering tasks, AiNET will:
- Perform an evaluation of a private property and buildings whereby a new cable/conduit presence is anticipated.
- Evaluate penetration points of existing conduit or the need for new conduit entries.
- Evaluate conduit pathways for plenum and non-plenum environments.
- Record node rooms for, power, air conditioning, ceiling height, and floor or wall space for termination racks.
Drafting and Other Software
AiNET utilizes Autodesk’s Autocad 2012 drafting software to create construction drawings. ArcView GIS Software allows for the creation of shape files in NAD 83 for export to GIS mapping software. Trimble Terrasync GeoXH Data collector is used for GSP surveys. These enable GIS data to be processed and converted to a variety of formats including DXF and shape files. Other CAD capabilities include scanning and digitizing of existing road plans, maps and creation of elevation profiles.
